Saleem Shahzad’s Recitation of a Dream

by Nasir Karim Khan

Saleem Shahzad’s mesmerizing poems offer a unique lens to view the complexities of the human condition. From the haunting personification of fear to the surreal landscapes of dreams, Shahzad’s verses beckon us to explore the boundaries of perception and delve into the realm of introspection.

In “The god of Fear” Saleem Shahzad evokes a sense of dread and urgency through vivid imagery and commanding language. The personification of fear and the plea to turn away create a haunting atmosphere. The use of short, fragmented lines enhances the intensity of the emotions, while the juxtaposition of the god of fear with the wind of the desert adds depth to the poem’s thematic elements.

Simultaneously, the poem unfolds a unique expression that invites a postmodern analysis, delving into the interplay of power dynamics and linguistic deconstruction, blurring of traditional boundaries and challenges the conventional understanding of fear, divinity, and nature.

The poem’s opening lines, “The god of Fear/The refuge of the scaffold,” initiate a deconstruction of established hierarchies. By assigning fear the status of a deity, Shahzad disrupts the normative understanding of divinity, questioning the sources from which societies derive their fears and the institutions that harbor them. The juxtaposition with the scaffold suggests a connection between fear and the structures of authority or punishment, highlighting the socio-political dimensions of fear.

The subsequent lines challenge the submissive acceptance of fear, urging a reversal or defiance. The personification of fear as a god and the call for the wind of the desert to take a stand further blur the lines between elements of nature and human constructs.

The poem’s brevity, absence of explicit details and fragmented structure provide ample room for multiple interpretations, contributing postmodern aesthetic. The concise lines create a sense of fragmentation, challenging the traditional continuity of poetic discourse.

“The Sunshine of Rain” beautifully explores the interplay of colors and elements, symbolizing the fusion of rain and sunshine. The imagery of rain-soaked butterflies and the transformation of gunpowder flames into kohl in the eyes of love are striking. The poet skillfully crafts a sensory experience, linking the visual and emotional realms. The poem suggests a harmonious relationship between contrasting forces, portraying the beauty that emerges from their union.

“Whispers of Ambiguity” delves into uncertainty and the impact it has on an individual’s perception of self being. The metaphor of sadness holding the moonless night and the whispers of ambiguity spinning in moments of uncertainty create a melancholic atmosphere. Silence of the mind and the decree negate one’s existence but a figment of imagination adds a layer of existential contemplation, urging the reader to ponder over the fragility of his identity.

“The Recitation of a Dream” invites the reader to embark on a poetic journey of creation and imagination. The imagery of making a sea with a flute’s breath, waking up a note, and showing the fish of seashells to the eyes paints a surreal and enchanting picture. The use of dream-like elements and vivid descriptions contributes to the poem’s ethereal feature, prompting readers to explore the boundaries of reality and imagination.

The poem is a vivid exploration of creativity and transformation, emphasizing to awaken new perspectives, smothers burdens, and reveals buried truths. It critiques societal illusions and challenges, urging collective action to overcome them. Ultimately, it celebrates unity in creativity and the boundless possibilities that emerge when individuals come together to manifest their dreams.

“Birds of Lies” explores the consequences of falsehoods and the distortion of truth in a metaphorical flight of birds. The clocks of the non-existent world decreeing and the dove of truth falling from the compromise of fact symbolize the precarious nature of falsehood. The poem comments on the societal impact of lies and the unraveling of reality when falsehoods take flight.

If we look his above poems collectively, we can say that Saleem Shahzad’s poetry is characterized by rich imagery, metaphorical depth, and thought-provoking explorations. Each poem offers a unique perspective, blending emotions and intellect. The poet’s skill to use language creatively and unconventional subjects highlights his literary genius. These poems form patterns of emotions, reflections, and aesthetic experiences that engage the reader in a profound journey through Shahzad’s poetic landscape.

Every human being is a manifestation of the abilities given by nature, In this context, people with certain wonders do their work appropriately, Who are considered capable of searching the secrets of nature. Every poet is a creator, but SALEEM SHEHZAD is one of the poets whose poetry describes cosmic processes in words, Which, apart from traditional poetry, composes a poem that transforms the dream state of reality into a modern life. The colors of life, the seasons of nature, the sensuous state of fear and feeling, the relationships of nature in beauty, the forms of fear of God, the stories of punishments. All this is found in Salim Shahzad’s poetry. While agreeing with the words that NASIR KARIM chose and expressed his analysis on them, it has to be said that as a poet and a critic, the scholarly literary and research vision that he has tried is so profound to me. Impact and style never met before

Saleem Shehzad’s words have a magical way of touching the deepest corners of my heart and soul. The emotions conveyed through the poetry are both powerful and profound.

The poetry has a unique ability to transport me to different worlds and make me feel a range of emotions, from joy and wonder to sadness and introspection. The use of language is both innovative and evocative, and I am always left with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the written word.
