Land of Sensitivity

— POEM by

Barbara Gramza

(Translated from Polish)

I built myself from half-shadows and light;

From a breath that wasn’t afraid of silence;

And, as of rain that soothed, words that burned;

In a land where every pain means something.

There are no masks here, though the world demands them.

Here, every tear has its own name.

So, I touch thoughts before they fall from the sky;

And turn them into tender sentences — that’s how I flow.

As, not everyone understands that softness is strength;

That fear can be the beginning of courage;

And, that sensitivity is not a wound but a bridge

between the world and what lies beyond.

In this land—mine, dreamed of;

Words are a prayer; and, sometimes a cry;

But they always return like letters to themselves;

Unsent—but eternal—in the touch.
