Iโm translating a Stevensโ poem about chaos,
As Iโm working, I notice Ma Yuan
Eating hot pot noodles in the kitchen alone;
He leaves his dish on the table and stands up.
Hesitating for a moment, he looks strangely tall through the blurred glass.
Clearly, heโs a younger version of me; He stands there for a moment,
Then goes to put on a pot of water. Before it boils,
His disappearance creates an extra bedroom.ย ย ย
Clearly, he ate lunch alone many years later,
Boiling a pot of water, waiting for it to cool.
By the time he remembered the water cooling, he found,
Himself alone in the house, all summer.ย
โฆ.
