Do come.
Iโll not meet you at home.
I have hidden door key under the pantile.
For lunch,
You can have chutney,
Of challis and garlic,
With maize roti.
Iโve put your favourite Lorca book,
On the broken cot.
Iโll be late.
Do stay if you like.
Iโve to go to hospital and then to police station.
The bastards have burnt alive a girl from our street.
Iโll be late.
Donโt lock the door from inside.
I know youโll be angry,
With touch of nightmares.
Iโll set out,
like that only.
Daya, with people of my street,
When the street is still snoring,
Iโll keep a watch,
With lantern of my soul.
They will start barking,
Like dogs,
Iโll drive them away,
Till the street awakes,
Just like,
Your poems.

Jayant Parmar
Born on 11 October 1954, a well-known Indian Urdu language poet, artist and calligrapher, writes both in Urdu and Gujarati. Jayant Parmar is known for raising Dalit issues in his poetry. Parmar was born in a poor family. Since he had developed an appreciation and taste for Urdu poetry while living in the walled city area of Ahmadabad, he taught himself Urdu from a language learning guide at the age 30 after.
Jayant Parmar has published seven collections of Urdu poems: โAurโ (1999), โPencil Aur Doosri Nazmeinโ (2006), โMaanindโ (2007), โAntraalโ (2010), โNazm Yaaniโ (2013), โGiacometti Ke Sapneโ, (2016) and โNuqta Aur Doosri Nazmeinโ (2019). He is recipient of Sahitya Academi Award, 2009 for his book โPencil Aur Doosri Nazmeinโ, Bhasha Bharti Samman, 2006 for โAurโ, Gujarat Sahitya Academi Award, Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Academi (2002) and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jeevan Gaurav Puraskaar (2020) etc. His works has been translated into Hindi, English, Punjabi, Assami, Telugu, Bangla, Kashmiri, Tamil, Kannada, Malyalam, Nepali, Marathi and also in various other languages like Slovenian and Spanish.
