Candle and Shadow I

—POEM by Chen Hsiu-chen

(Translated from Mandarin by Lee Kuei-shien)

Chen Hsiu Chen, Taiwan, Mandarin Poet

In the darkness,

you are looking for me

to have my body as an altar,

burn into a firing phoenix.

In your trembling spark,

I manifest myself

and become

your shadow.

By how much you love me

you will burn how intensively

until the last oxygen extinguished.

In the darkness I follow you step by step,

while you occupy me inch by inch

with a rhythm of the light.

The dance of flame,

and the dance of love

play a twin dance show of death

with an ultimate beautiful.

….
