Pretending Hurts

— POEM by

Fiana Winata

(Translated from Indonesian)

Can you look in the blurry mirror?

Even though you’ve conditioned your eyesight,

Fumbling through the long blur,

Sometimes you fall because of your gaze.

You think everything’s arranged,

Even though in reality, the biases of lies accompany it,

Dancing in the increasingly stained mirror,

Until you forget your reflection is no longer there.

I don’t know how long I’ll be silent,

Witnessing the glittering stage you created,

Playing the protagonist you proclaimed.

Unfortunately,

This body endures increasingly inflamed pain,

Stoned by falsehood,

Stupidity,

And intoxicating deception.

….
