Cover the Memories

Cover the memories with a white sheet,
Don’t let them hate each other anywhere.
Because they can go into oblivion,
If you lose them you lose me too.
Collect them in a basket,
Don’t let them fall apart,
Don’t let them ever forget you.
And then when it’s the hardest for you,
Sort through them and find the right one.
They are yours as well as mine,
I keep mine and go through them often.
May the past be never erased,
She has taken a place in our hearts.
Then when the going gets tough,
They will always come in handy then.
They will keep you company as if you were with me,
And you will never be alone.
Keep them somewhere so they don’t be stolen,
You know there are always selfish people.
Resist everyone and let them judge you,
Please always be honest about it.

Derviša Grabus Čolaković
Derviša Grabus Čolaković was born in 1957 in Travnik, Bosnia and
Herzegovina. Currently she lives and works in Washington DC, USA. Derviša
Grabus Čolaković has published four books of poetry: “Zivotne staze
postojanja” (Life Paths of Existence) 2021, “Tihi koraci” (Quiet
Footsteps) 2022, “Zivot i sudbina” (Life and Destiny) 2022, and “Kap
u moru ljubavi” (A Drop in the Ocean of Love) 2023. Her poems are published
in several anthologies and collections of poetry. She is a member of the World
Literary Academy, winner of the Golden Certificate, and an author in the Encyclopedia
of the Best World Poets.
